So Meta has released some AI accounts for Facebook.
These AI “people” will create content and engage with existing users.
At first, I thought, What a strange idea. There are so many bots on these platforms anyhow.
Heck, I even have a fake Tax ID on my Facebook about that Meta refuses to remove. (I hate Facebook, in full disclosure.)
But, it’s actually a great idea.
Here is one of these AI people.
And a post they did:
And if you look at the comments, you can see it’s not well received.
In fact, it seems straight out deceptive. There was no clothes drive. But Meta really doesn’t care about that - they have demonstrated they will only bend when legally obligated to, as in the case of even child safety.
But there are a LOT of people who would not even realize a picture like that is fake at first glance. And there are a LOT of older Facebook users who get no engagement and post and re-post crap all day.
That’s the target market.
Sprinkle in a little engagement and these sad, old people are mostly not going to know, but appreciate the new notification. And it will encourage them to create more content and most importantly, spend more time on the platform.
That’s the “Brave New World” soma. Time spent on the platform. The magic metric these companies crave at all cost.
As FakeTunaFromSubway says on Reddit:
“Pretty simply because they've discovered that users like engaging with other users, whether or not those users are AI. At the end of the day, the goal is to increase engagement on their platform. The secondary advantage of AI-generated users is that they're locked into Meta's platform; you can't find the same user on TikTok.”
And I suspect he is correct.
But AI is really infiltrating the social media world.
Expect that to continue.
In other news, if you have ever thought about starting a niche directory, I created a video tutorial to show you how do that with no-code tools.
(And I have a directoy guide coming out that will be free to those who subscribe in the beta period. Link is in the description of the YouTube video.)
Beep. Bop.
So what are you thoughts on the AI Meta accounts?
